Polysorbate-80, also known as Tween-80, is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier with the formula C24H44O6(C2H4O)n. Soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, vegetable oil, ethyl -acetate, metha-nol, tolue-ne, insoluble in mineral oil. Gelatinized at low temperature and recovered after heat. Very smelly, slightly bitter taste.
 

Application

 

Tween-20 is lauryl ester; Tween-60 is stearate; Tween-80 is an oleate and has emulsifying effect.

It can be used as a wetting agent for suspension. Non-ionic surfactant.

Usage and dosage: Used as emulsifier when preparing oil-in-water emulsion or cream. It can also be used as a solubilization aid for oils (such as v

olatile oils).
