Product Description

Glimepiride is a third-generation sulfonylurea long-acting antidiabetic agent whose main mechanism of hypoglycaemic action is to stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and partially increase the sensitivity of surrounding tissues to insulin. It binds to and dissociates from insulin receptors more rapidly than glibenclamide and is less likely to cause severe hypoglycaemia.

 

Commonly used dosage forms include tablets, capsules, and drop pills. It is a hypoglycemic drug. It is applicable to type 2 diabetes with unsatisfactory blood sugar control in diet control, exercise therapy and weight loss.



By binding to the sulphonylurea receptor (a protein with a relative molecular mass of 6.5 x 104) on the surface of pancreatic β-cells, this receptor couples to the ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channel Chemicalbook, causing the KATP channel to close, causing depolarization of the cell membrane, opening the voltage-dependent calcium channel, inducing insulin release by Ga2+ inward flow, and inhibiting hepatic Glucose synthesis.
