Cefotiofur has a wide antibacterial spectrum and strong antibacterial activity. It has strong antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria and some anaerobic bacteria. Among them, it is similar or weak to the first generation cephalosporins against gram-positive bacteria, and has strong antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, etc. It is suitable for infection of respiratory tract and urinary tract caused by various sensitive bacteria, especially for prevention and treatment of early death of chicken seedlings caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus, etc., coliform yellow dysentery of 1-day-old piglets, wound infection caused by umbilical cord cutting, ear tapping, tooth cutting, tail cutting, etc., as well as porcine infectious   pleuropneumonia caused by haemophilic actinobacter, bovine bronchopneumonia, etc, It is generally not suitable for the treatment of mastitis in cows and sheep. The antibacterial test of ceftiofur sodium on thousands of pathogenic bacteria isolated from veterinary clinic by some researchers showed that the drug was one of the drugs with the strongest antibacterial activity, and had strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, pasteurella multocida and hemolytic bacteria, salmonella typhimurium, and Streptococcus; It also has a good effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacteriaceae and anaerobes.
