Product Description
Hydrochlorothiazide, also known as dihydrochlorothiazide and dihydrochlorothiazide, is a thiazide diuretic with an intermediate diuretic effect. By acting on the cortical part of the ascending segment of the medullary collaterals, it inhibits the active reabsorption of Cl- and the passive absorption of Na+ at this site, resulting in diuresis. In addition, it has hypotensive and antidiuretic effects. It is suitable for all kinds of oedema, especially cardiogenic oedema. It can also be used as an antihypertensive agent for the treatment of mild and medium-sized hypertension. It is also effective in urolithiasis and idiopathic hypercalcemia. Commonly used thiazide diuretics include hydrochlorothiazide, chlorothiazide, indapamide, etc.
A typical representative of the thiazide class of intermediate-acting diuretics and ranked first in drug sales in the United States in 1985. Because of its ease of administration, moderate action and suitability for all types of oedema, it is the most commonly used clinically due to the presence of potassium-draining adverse effects and the need for potassium salt supplementation when applied.
It mainly inhibits the reabsorption of Na+ and Cl- from the anterior segment of the distal tubule and the proximal tubule (which has a lesser effect), resulting in increased urinary sodium, potassium, chloride, phosphorus and magnesium ions excretion and decreased urinary calcium excretion.
