Product Description

A bacteriostatic antibiotic and an orally active dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor. It is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria. It can be used in the study of urinary tract infections, Shigellosis and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia.

Function

 

Trimethoprim Lactate is often used in combination with sulphonamides in a ratio of 1:4 to 5 for respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary infections, as well as septicaemia and cellulitis. It can also be used in combination with other antibacterial drugs to achieve synergistic effects.



In combination with sulphonamides, it causes a double blockage of bacterial folate metabolism, enhancing its action several to several dozen times. It has a bactericidal effect and also reduces the production of resistant strains of bacteria.
